GLOBAL FLEET & TRADE · HANDBOOK
Condition, Repairs, Upgrades and Names
Condition describes the technical state of an individual vessel. Repairs occupy it in the shipyard; upgrades and renaming change only their stated properties.
At a Glance
- Type data and individual condition are separate.
- An active repair prevents simultaneous voyages.
- Price and duration are shown before confirmation.
Licence rule
Repairs and renaming owned vessels remain available without a shipyard licence. Upgrades belong to Equipment and require at least 5 reputation points, the title Aspiring Trader and a shipyard licence at the active port.
Start a repair
- Bring the vessel to an available port city; every such city has a shipyard.
- Open the repair area.
- Choose the vessel and check condition, price, duration and capacity.
- Confirm; the vessel remains unavailable until completion.
If repair is unavailable
Check actual vessel location, route status, existing repair, shipyard capacity and funds. Changing the active office does not move the vessel.
Research unlocks installation
Completing research does not alter the fleet automatically. Engine Plant I–III, Cargo Hold I–III and Navigation I–III each unlock the matching shipyard upgrade level. Installation is then ordered for one vessel, occupies a dock slot and binds that vessel until completion.
Effects of the three upgrade types
| Upgrade | Level I | Level II | Level III |
| Engine Plant | +10% speed, −5% fuel | +20% speed, −10% fuel | +30% speed, −16.67% fuel |
| Cargo Hold | +5% capacity | +10% capacity | +15% capacity |
| Navigation | −2% voyage time | −4% voyage time | −6% voyage time |
Rename and upgrade
Renaming changes the individual name, not the vessel type. Upgrade levels are totals, not additive stacks: level II replaces the effect of level I. After completion, the vessel returns to port status with its new values.
